Begin Again: It’s Never Too Late To Find Purpose and Healing
As we grow older, many of us carry around the notion that we may have missed our chance. It’s too late to start over or too late to change direction. Too late to heal, to grow, or to become the person we always imagined we could be. But I don’t believe that; not anymore. Because over the years in my own life and in the lives of those around me, I’ve seen what happens when people decide to ignore that voice. For example, when someone returns to study in their 40s or 50s, or when a person dares to walk away from something that no longer serves them, when someone finds love after loss, or begins to heal from trauma that’s been carried for years, the difference is palpable. Change for the better doesn’t have an expiry date.
Growth in later life often brings a richness that that we thought was for youth alone. But there’s something deeply powerful about making choices with the wisdom of experience behind you. There’s a strength in deciding to begin again, not because you have to, but because you want to. Starting something new, be it a career, a hobby, a healing journey, can feel daunting when you feel life may have passed you by. But that’s just fear. Age doesn’t disqualify you. If anything, it adds depth and purpose because you bring with you your stories, your scars, your strength and resilience. And that really matters.
So, if you’ve been holding back and telling yourself that it’s too late to write that book, take that class, or follow that dream, I urge you, in the words of Susan Jeffers, to feel the fear and do it anyway. Because it’s never too late to choose differently, never too late to begin again.
Mind yourself.
